Just an opinion. Correct me if I’m wrong!
Given a chance, honestly, looking at the present condition of Web2.0 today, I would prefer Web 1.0, for the reason that Silicon Valley’s “more numbers and more funders” mantra sowed the seeds of Web 2.0’s “crumble”! We won’t be upgrading to Web 3.0, rather, it’s an alternate platform formulized that would run parallel to the present broken Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is not going anywhere, because Web 3.0 seems to be a subset of Web 2.0 only. It’s just being marketed in a new gift wrap. Blockchains, Tokens, (Un)Stablecoin, Cryptos, NFTs, Fungible & Non-Fungible Assets etc., aren’t they already the part of Web 2.0! Thus, where’ the difference? Maybe I’m missing something somewhere or need to upgrade myself!
The apologists of Web 3.0 argues that it would navigate its course by sharing the Collective Wealth with Participants, who would not necessarily be the Owners, vide Tokens! But this we can be done in the Web 2.0 also! And all this argument that Web 3.0 would be more protective, free, and, uncensored; then the same things are already existing for Web 2.0 too! You’ve TRIPS, BERNE, Paris Convention, ICANN, WIPO Disputes Redressal, Hague, Territorial Domain Name Dispute, and, IP / IT Laws. Problem is, these were all circumvented, bypassed, by Social Media Platforms, Search Engine Giants, and, Gen-AI Companies! Thus, giving this argument that Web 3.0 would be more protective can be thus be questioned as being a new idea! Furthermore, how would you be knowing who are these persons developing, monitoring, authenticating the tokens, from any part of the World, or whose byproducts they are? There’s an old saying -> a computer virus was created by the same, who created the anti-virus software.
The Tokens are the foundation in Web 3.0 with Zero Knowledge Proof! Fine! But we can find different instances and cases, wherein, the Crypto transactions were tracked to resolve certain cognizable cases, for all genuine reasons. So, it’s like a backdoor entry cannot be created for iPhone, yet, there was a probability of creating one, for all the genuine reasons. Correct? Further, there would be cases wherein from terrorists to launderers would use Web 3.0. Then there would a time, when, governments, to crack certain case, would need to crack Web 3.0, for all the genuine reasons, which will open it, in its entirety. Unlike in the present Web 2.0, wherein, at least you can challenge certain actions in the court of law, knowing the individuals involved, which is more transparent than would be in the Web 3.0.
From Person Property to Rights, as I’ve explained above are already existing. They were just not implemented, because some of them becoming trillion dollars in valuations, alas, which became more of an acceptable modus-operandi! No one allowed no one to use, scrap, or milk the Web 2.0, yet, the entire Dairy Farm was Milked, Processed, or, Sold! Therefore, what new things Web 3.0 be providing, except, anonymity? Now here comes the trillion-dollar question! Where will your Dark Web float? Are we talking about integrating Dark Web to Web 2.0 in the name Tokens and Blockchains creating Web 3.0? Because, as per my understanding, and I may be wrong, the metadata would only provide the validation & authenticity, and not the Data itself!
If you’re considering Like Button as a Token (analogy), or the number of Clickbaits to expand your integrated Wallet as Participants or as Ownership rights; then, isn’t that already been MISUSED in the Web 2.0?
Am I missing something? 😊
